The 2018 Lincoln Navigator Provides the Luxury You Deserve from Your SUV

High-tech features are packed in the 2018 Lincoln Navigator from the grille to the taillights, and they combine with premium materials to give you luxury seldom thought possible in a car. It remains the standard of the SUV class, but there are still competitors that claim to give you the same feel as the Lincoln Navigator. It doesn't take much research to find out that this is patently false.

To save you some time, we compared the 2018 Lincoln Navigator with another SUV, the Chevrolet Suburban, in some key categories: performance, design, technology, and safety.

Performance

Both models stick with one engine throughout each trim. The Lincoln Navigator goes with a 3.5-liter Twin-Turbocharged V6, and the Chevy Suburban goes with a 5.3-liter V8. With 450 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque, the Lincoln Navigator blows the Chevy Suburban, 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet, out of the water. It also features a 10-speed transmission while the Suburban sticks with a 6-speed.

This powertrain advantage means the Lincoln Navigator will accelerate more quickly, and it will feel smoother as it works through the gears. The extra power also allows the Lincoln Navigator to tow 400 more pounds than the Chevy Suburban is capable of. Luxury doesn't have to mean cutting corners in terms of power.

Design

Both cars in this comparison seat up to eight passengers thanks to three rows of seats, but passengers won't be cramped no matter where they sit in the Lincoln Navigator. Third row passengers will have more leg and shoulder room than in the Chevy Suburban. This also translates to greater storage in the Lincoln Navigator. It's 128.2 cubic feet of storage with the rear seats down easily beats the 121.7 cubic feet of the Chevy Suburban.

Passengers will enjoy the extra room of the Lincoln Navigator in supreme comfort. It comes standard with 10-way adjustable heated seats, but is available with 30-way adjustable seats with heating, cooling, and massage functions. The Suburban starts with 8-way adjustable seats and only goes as high as 12-way adjustable with heating and ventilation.

Technology

The seating isn't the only area the Lincoln Navigator goes above and beyond in terms of luxury and convenience. To keep everyone's devices charged, the Lincoln Navigator comes standard with a wireless charging pad, and is available with six fast-charging ports. The Chevy Suburban doesn't use fast-charging technology and only one trim is available with wireless charging.

Storage is also easier in the Lincoln Navigator because of standard PowerFold® second and third-row seats. With a touch of a button the back rows will fold flat, and you can start loading up instead of messing with seat-levers. You won't find that convenience in every Chevy Suburban, nor will you find a foot-activated liftgate, but the Lincoln Navigator comes standard with that too.

Safety

You can't indulge in every feature of your car if you're worried about your safety, but the Lincoln Navigator has an impressive suite of safety features. It comes standard with a blind spot information system with rear traffic alert, which can't be said of the Chevy Suburban.

Large cars can be rather tough to park, especially parallel parking, but the Lincoln Navigator can handle it for you with the Enhanced Active Park Assist feature. It's also available with a Head-up Display that allows the driver to see vital information without taking their eyes of the road. The Chevy Suburban doesn't feature either of these innovative technologies.
