A peek at the upcoming 2020 Lincoln Aviator crossover

At the spring 2018 New York Auto Show Lincoln unveiled the upcoming 2020 Lincoln Aviator to eager journalists and fans. You might remember the short-lived Lincoln Aviator from the early 2000's, but we assure you this model is very different. The 2020 version is more elegant, sumptuous, and better positions itself against luxury European rivals. Thanks to bold wheel designs and a powerful grille that looks like it was made of elegant chainmail, the Lincoln Aviator is going to be a commanding and head-turning vehicle.

The brand is staying a little hush hush on the details, revealing mostly images, but here's what we know about the upcoming model so far.

In terms of size, the Lincoln Aviator is a three-row model and it will be slotted below the Lincoln Navigator. It's suspected that the crossover will have the same twin-turbo V6 as its larger sibling, as well as the smooth 10-speed transmission. There will also be a plug-in hybrid option, and this will be perfect for those with short-distance commutes or drivers who're keen on fuel-saving tech.

Safety technology is expected to be quite comprehensive on this model. It's set to feature the Lincoln Co-Pilot 360 program, which has many driver-assist features that help protect you from a collision at high or low speeds. Here's an idea of what you can expect to find:

  • Automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection
  • A blind spot information system
  • Lane keeping assist
  • Automatic high beams
  • Reverse brake assist - new

Since Lincoln has paid plenty of homage to aviation and the new models name is, well, obviously flight-inspired, it's no surprise that sitting inside a Lincoln Aviator is like sitting Business Class on an international flight. You'll have comfortable seats with unique upholstery designs, chrome accents, and high-quality materials. Even the exterior of the vehicle looks built for flight, thanks to the slopping roofline and body contouring that provides flair and better aerodynamics.
